Metal (금, 金) — clarity, standards
Metal is the element of refining — cutting, finishing, deciding what stays and what goes. In Saju (Korean Four Pillars of Destiny, BaZi), it carries autumn, the west, and the work of separating what is ripe from what is not.
What it means
Metal makes distinctions. It has a standard and it applies it. Where metal is strong, a person tends to be clear about what is acceptable, what is finished, and what is simply not good enough yet — and to be uncomfortable when things are left vague.
Temperament
Metal-leaning people are precise, decisive, and often more principled than they let on. They cut cleanly, which reads as cold to people who wanted the vagueness left intact. The intent is usually not coldness; it is that a blurred line feels like a lie.
Strengths
Cutting through the noise to the decision. Finishing things. Keeping a standard when it would be easier not to. Saying the honest, unwelcome sentence that everyone else was circling.
The shadow side
Too much metal is a blade that never sheathes: rigidity, judgement, an edge on people who did not need one. Too little, and everything stays open — decisions defer, standards drift, and the thing never quite gets finished.

Metal is loyal and unusually honest — it does not do performative warmth. It will tell you the true thing. It needs to remember that the true thing is not always the useful thing to say right now, and that not every conversation is asking for a verdict.
